Hi everyone, welcome back. Today I want to cover a topic known as job-hopping, coming from a software engineer’s perspective. There has been some debates on job-hopping vs company loyalty and when an employee should consider changing roles. So, let’s get into it.

What is job-hopping? It is generally a term that is defined as an employee who holds a position for a short time period before switching roles. This short time period is typically 2 years or less. Job-hopping is becoming more frequent which is why it has become a bigger topic over the past recent years. This is because we have way more opportunities for work today than we did years ago due to the way technology has advanced. Many companies are providing remote work especially since due to the Covid pandemic. As a software engineer, it is also beneficial to have experience working on different projects with different teams, and I’m sure this applies to other roles as well.

Let’s go over some reasons why someone may consider job-hopping. Like mentioned earlier, if a software engineer wants to build up their career advancement, it is very beneficial to work on different projects that work with different technologies.
