Cyber Security: Physical Attacks

Hi everyone, welcome back. Cyber security is an important area of focus. There is a whole lot of data that is being stored and transmitted digitally. This includes sensitive data that could potentially cause damage to someone or even a whole company. We will go over some common physical attacks in this article. Let’s get into it.

Skimming Attacks

Skimming attacks are a type of attack that is capable of card cloning. A card cloning device can be placed on an ATM or a gas pump at a gas station. When someone places their card into that cloning device, it copies the card info in which the attacker can use that info for malicious intent. This can be prevented by ensuring that there is no additional device placed on top of a card reader.

USB Cable

USB cables can have Wi-Fi chips installed inside of them that are capable of a number of malicious activities. Common malicious activities include data exfiltration and eavesdropping. The biggest concern is when a malicious cable allows an attacker to remote control the device it is plugged into. Attackers can run malicious commands through these cables.
